Dr. Allan Frank
Dr. Frank received his bachelor's degree in Animal Science from the University of Maryland and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Gregorio Araneta University, Philippines, in 1979. He built and started Hunt Valley Animal Hospital in 1984. Today, the Hunt Valley Animal Hospital is a modern, state of the art animal hospital catering to the needs of our prized family pets. Dr. Frank is a member of the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association and the Baltimore County Kennel Club. Though Dr. Frank is a general practitioner, he has special interests in dermatology, gasteroenterology, urology, cardiology and has been performing minimally invasive surgery for several years. Dr. Frank has acquired his advanced medical and surgical skills through the completion of continuing education courses in rhinoscopy, cystoscopy, laparoscopic exploratory surgery, endoscopy, colonoscopy, transcervical insemination, transurethral collagen implantation and laparoscopic-assisted gastropexy (a life-saving procedure to prevent gastric torsion). Dr. Frank also has learned advanced techniques to surgically repair elongated soft palates in brachycephalic breeds.
Dr. Frank enjoys spending time with his two sons, Evan and Adam, and daughter-in-law, Chrissy. Dr. Frank is owned by his German Shepherd, Titus and Evan's cat, Dylan. He also enjoys watching Adam and Chrissy's English Bulldog, Poky. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Frank likes to cycle through northern Baltimore County and fly fish. He is an avid fan of the Baltimore Ravens and Maryland Terrapins college basketball! He is on hiatus of showing dogs right now, but it has been a big part of his life.
Dr. Gary Brooks
Dr. Brooks has been practicing companion animal medicine and surgery, including dental surgery since 1974. For the past 7 years, he has focused on veterinary sports medicine and rehabilitation. Augmenting this focus, Dr. Brooks has recently taken courses at the Univerisity of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine for arthroscopic procedures - minimally invasive diagnostics and surgery of the joints. He is certified in traditional veterinary acupuncture by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society and is also a recognized veterinary massage and rehabilitation therapist, approved by the state of Wisconsin. It is one of only two such certification programs in the United States. Dr. Brooks has also met the testing requirements to practice spinal manipulation, which is the equivalent of human chiropractic. Dr. Brooks is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, The Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, The American Acupuncture Society, The International Veterianry Acupuncture Association and The American Sports Medicine Society. Dr. Brooks has two Dobermans named Riley and Casey.
Dr. Meghan Johnston

Dr. Johnston has been with Hunt Valley Animal Hospital since August 2003 after completing a one year small animal medicine and surgery internship at the Regional Veterinary Referral Center in Springfield, VA. Dr. Johnston graduated from Lehigh University in 1995 with a degree in Biology and from Towson State University in 2000 with a Master's Degree in Biology. She then went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island in Canada in 2002. In 2005, Dr. Johnston completed two separate training courses on ultrasound procedures and diagnostics in Florida and Washington D.C. In 2006, Dr Johnston completed an intense training course for laparoscopic surgical procedures, rhinoscopy and cystoscopy at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. She has also learned the advanced techniques for repair of elongated soft palates in brachycephalic breeds. Dr. Johnston has a special interest in surgery and cardiology. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Johnston shares her home with her husband, Reuben and their four dogs Murphy and Asher, rescues from a Canadian Humane Society and local Defenders of Animal Rights, respectively and Dr. Seuss and Loki, also rescues. Murphy is a certified Pets On Wheels therapy dog and he goes with Dr. Johnston on many visits to hospitals and nursing homes. Two cats are also part of the clan, a 3-legged rescue named Gustafur and a tuxedo cat named Taz. In her free time away from the hospital, Dr. Johnston enjoys cycling, golf, rock climbing, hiking with her dogs, running, swing dancing and her monthly black tie dinners as a member of the Baltimore Dinner Club. Dr. Johnston is also an avid sports fan and can be seen and heard all winter cheering for the Ravens! However, on her artistic side, she dreams of being on a Broadway stage someday...
Dr. Courtney Jones
Dr. Jones just joined the Hunt Valley Animal Hospital veterinary team in early June 2009. She graduated from Bucknell University in 1993 with a Bachelors degree in Biology and a minor in Education. From there, Dr. Jones moved to Philadelphia to pursue a Masters degree in Laboratory Animal Science at Hahnemann University. She went on to receive her VMD degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1998.
After graduating, Dr. Jones made the move to Baltimore and spent 8 years at a practice in Columbia. Most recently, she worked at the Eastern Veterinary Blood Bank, traveling around Maryland and Virginia conducting blood drives for dogs. She has completed several courses in abdominal ultrasound and is also interested in dermatology. In 2010, Dr Jones completed an intensive course on endocospic and laparoscopic surgery at the University of Georgia. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Jones shares her home with her two adorable cats, Griffin, a tabby adopted during her days at Penn, and Ozzie, a stray from Baltimore. She also loves her Golden Retriever, Daisy, a retired blood donor. In her spare time, she can be found at the gym, at home cooking and catching up on her DVR, and when time allows, traveling.
Dr. Kelly Papke
We are pleased to welcome back Dr. Papke. She rejoined our veterinary team in June 2010. Dr. Papke graduated from Drexel University with a BS degree in Biological Sciences in 1993 and from the University of Pennsylvania with a veterinary degree (VMD) in 1997. Following graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Papke practiced in Chicago and New York City. Living in New York City during the September 11 attacks, Dr. Papke was able to volunteer her services at the World Trade Center attending to the search and rescue dogs. Her special interests include internal medicine, geriatric medicine and exotics. Dr. Papke is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Papke returned home to Maryland in 2002. She shares her home with two awesome dogs, Newman and Beagly. In her free time, Dr. Papke enjoys baking cupcakes (and the staff REALLY enjoys eating them), hiking and spending time with her dogs, and learning to sew.
